Women’s Workwear – Why A&M are dedicated to bringing women’s workwear to the industrial sector
It’s no secret that women have always been in need of workwear – now more that ever before. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, as of 2018, women make up 12% the construction industry, 28% of the manufacturing industry, 16% of the mining industry, 22% of the electricity, gas, water and waste industry, 21% of transport and warehousing, and 21% of agriculture, forestry and fishing. As women’s participation in the workplace is projected to rise, as women’s overall participation in the workplace has risen from 64% in 2008 to 67% in 2018.
The result are in: the need for women’s workwear is also expected to grow
Women’s workwear is not just a matter of comfort, but a major a safety issue. According to the “Duck’s in a Pond” report published by the Quay Connection in 2017, *78% of apprentices said that uniforms need essential improvements. Wearing gloves that are too big for one’s hand, or helmets that don’t fit one’s head, or safety glasses that are too loose, is a significant and pressing safety issue”
So what can we do to solve this? As a start, we offer fitter industrial workwear for workers because we know worker’s safety is essential. Loose shirts can be caught in machinery, so a properly fitter shirt and pair of pants is a necessity. Loose boots put strain on a worker’s ankles, and the lack of grip can cause a trip, where tight boots will put undue strain on feet. The fit and comfort make workwear safe. A&M Workwear stock a full range of women’s workwear, catering to a wide range of industries.
The future is clear – the one-style-fits-all range of high-visibility workwear for men and women is getting a makeover.
Wishing you a safe workday – Kelly Walker, employee of A&M Workwear
